PORCELAIN ILLUSTRATION & PAINTING PROCESS
After the first kiln firing (air-dried porcelain is fired to half it's full firing temperature to strengthen before painting), illustrations are sketched directly on porcelain surface with graphite pencil. Ceramic underglaze paint is applied (with brushes just like canvas painting), which transform to a glass-shiny, 100% food safe coating during the second kiln firing (2300 degree Fahrenheit). The third and final kiln-firing permanently fuses 22k gold luster (yes, real gold! yes, it comes in liquid form which is also applied with paint brushes!) to the glaze resulting in gilded, sparkling, 100% food safe artwork that also holds delicious lattes and tea!
