september 2026 course applications closed
Thank you to everyone who applied. Cohort 1 has been selected. We begin painting September 22.
THE EXPERIENCE
Rather than pre-recorded lessons, this workshop is built around live demonstration and conversation. We will move through the entire porcelain painting process together - from the first pencil sketch to underglaze outlining, layered color, and final finishing. You'll be able to ask questions as we work, receive personal feedback on your own pieces, and revisit the recordings afterward at your own pace.
Reference materials and a complete supply list are included.
What you'll learn
Transferring drawings to clay
Underglaze linework and brushwork
Color theory and color selection
Building layered color without muddiness
Creating depth and atmosphere
Finishing techniques and glazing considerations
who this is for
This workshop is designed for artists who:
- Have ceramics experience and want to develop a more illustrative style
- Primarily work in painting or drawing and want to transition those skills onto porcelain
- Appreciate thoughtful discussion, slow observation, and process over speed
- Prefer a small, intimate learning environment

frequently asked questions
Do I need experience?
Familiarity with ceramics and glazing is recommended, but you do not need experience with illustrative painting on ceramics.
Do I need a kiln?
Students should have access to a kiln, either at home or through a local community ceramics studio, with firing to both cone 04 (bisque) and cone 5 or 6.
Will the sessions be recorded?
Yes. Every session will be available to revisit afterward.
Will there be individual feedback?
Yes. The small class size is intentionally designed to allow for discussion and private, personal critique.
When will the applications open?
Applications are closed for my September 2026 course. Future courses will be announced to my course email list.
